Women are the solution to poverty. They have the potential to bring about economic and social change that transforms lives - one woman, one family, one community at a time.
Women Empowered (WE) is PCI’s global initiative dedicated to promoting the economic and social empowerment of women through the formation of self-managed and self-sustaining savings groups. A women's savings group (WE group) consists of 15-20 women who save money together, lend to each other and conduct business together.
PCI provides training to WE group participants in governance, record keeping, savings and lending, and entrepreneurship. Regular group meetings also provide a platform for social support and individual leadership development, enabling women to become powerful agents of economic and societal transformation within their communities.
When provided with guidance, training and tools, we believe in each woman's capacity to elevate herself, and her family, out of poverty. Our key objective is to incorporate WE savings and social empowerment groups into PCI's current and future development porgrams, supporting 150,000 women to join WE groups by 2014. Will you help us reach our goal?
